Guchengzi Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The naming section is the 2400 section east of the West open-pit mine of Fushun, Liaoning. Named by Hong Youchong et al. in 1974.
Lithology and Thickness
Mainly coal measures, intercalated with black shale, carbonaceous shale, cannel coal, amber, grayish black sandstone and siltstone. The roof and floor of the coal measures are black shale and carbonaceous shale. The thickness is generally 0.6–195 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It is in conformable contact with the underlying Paleocene Lizigou Fm.
Upper contact
It is in conformable contact with the overlying Middle Eocene Jijuntun Fm.
Regional extent
This formation is distributed in the Fushun area, Liaoning Province.

Fossils
The formation contains abundant sporopollen and insects. According to Sun Xiangjun et al., sporopollen includes the following elements: Alnipollenites spp., Pistillipollenites megregorii and Quercoidites spp., which resemble early Eocene forms in some areas of the northern hemisphere. The insects include Chironomus minimus, Eosciophila microtrichodis, Macrocera melanopoda, Sinobracon specious, Lycoria succinea and Eomyrex guchengziensis.
